My Books
I write character-driven crime fiction shaped by my years working inside the criminal justice system. Much of my work draws on real experiences, along with a focus on dialogue and the people caught in difficult situations. The Pat Riordan novels grew out of my time teaching in a school for at-risk students, where Pat begins as a teacher trying to reach kids who have been written off.
Over time, those stories move beyond the classroom. Pat finds himself drawn into situations involving missing people, buried secrets, and questions others would rather leave alone. He isn’t a traditional detective, but someone who gradually becomes involved in things he can’t ignore, often at a personal cost.
In Franklin’s Bennies, I introduce a new protagonist, Peter Cleary, a prison counselor who makes a decision that pulls him into a situation he can’t control. What starts as a simple favor turns into something more complicated, with pressure coming from all sides. Like my earlier work, it’s grounded in real settings and focuses on how people respond when the stakes begin to rise.
